The Support Group from the Center for Independent Living of South-Central PA goes to the Stables!
On June 5, approximately 30 members of the Brain Injury Support Group from the Center for Independent Living of South-Central PA in Altoona, along with family members, visited Dreams Go On near Canoe Creek State Park. Program Manager Debbie Kelly and volunteers shared the benefits of equine-assisted activities for individuals with brain injury. Participants learned safety skills and connected with the horses through brushing, combing, and petting.
This immersive educational initiative provided group members with unparalleled, hands-on experiences, fostering a deeper connection to horses and also fostering community connections. Supported by a mini-grant from the PA Department of Health implemented by Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania, the visit offered both learning and social connection.
One support group member comment really sums up the day, “This was the best day ever! I never knew that horses were so receptive to my feelings…I think that they really were glad that we came to visit.”
